A Typical Day | Live! In Concert | Activities

A class creates a band logoDayJams is more than just playing music! You’ll learn how to promote your band by creating a band logo, CD covers and posters in Art Class. When you’re ready for a break from rehearsal, get into a game during recreation sessions. During clinics and workshops, you’ll meet and experience guest artists and bands, with plenty of other activities throughout the day to spark your imagination.

ART

Our Art Director and staff help campers create a band logo, design a T-shirt, poster, CD cover, backstage pass, and other promotional materials for their band. Art class provides another creative outlet for campers during the week.

BAND REHEARSAL

Campers play in bands under the direction of a band coach. DayJams makes every effort to group students into bands by age and musical preference, from metal to blues. Students form lasting friendships as they jam, write, and perform. Campers may request, in advance, to be placed in bands with their friends and DayJams will do our best to make this happen. After the bands are formed, campers spend the week working together to collaborate, create and perform.

CLINICS

Teachers coordinate a variety of fun and interesting clinics created especially for DayJams. Topics may include recording techniques and performance or different musical styles such as blues, metal, and funk. Guest artists and professional rock bands are scheduled to appear in various locations and occasionally, DayJams alumni bands stop in to rock the campus. Students also enjoy "unplugged" sessions and jam sessions with faculty.

CONCERT RECORDING

Campers not only write a song, they also record it. Every Friday concert is recorded and each camper receives access to MP3 files on the web at the end of the summer.

INSTRUMENT CLASS

Focusing on their chosen instruments for the week, campers attend group classes twice a day, based on musical experience and proficiency. They learn techniques and exercises to improve their musicianship and skills.

RECREATION

During lunch breaks and recreation periods, campers may participate in sports and indoor or outdoor games organized by our Recreation Leader. These activities help to provide a well-rounded program each day for all of our campers and offer a chance to meet other students.

SONGWRITING

Campers learn to express their ideas through music and lyric writing. This collaborative exercise reinforces the concepts of cooperation and teamwork. Our staff offers encouragement and guidance as students create their original songs.
